Articles Display

Hello again!

I have finished with the editing of the layout of "365 News". I just have one last "problem". I don`t know how to change the way the individual articles are being displayed. Every time i click on an article, i can see -not only the content of the article- but all the particles of the home page as well. How can i change that, so when someone wants to read an article, the page will show just the content of it?

Thank you very much for your time!

Hi Ioannis,

Here are the answers of your questions:

1. The Menu Items that you need to create should be of type "Articles -> Single Article" or "Articles -> Category Blog". Those are the Menu Items that actually define the URLs of your articles.

2. No, this has nothing to do with the Layout Manager.

Here, have a look at this video that I recorded for you. It shows everything. Just watch it in Fullscreen and FullHD for better quality ;)

    Hi Ioannis,

This is not something specific to our products, this is just how Joomla works ;)

The problem is in your site configuration. More specifically, you do not have a menu item for your articles/categories and therefore the articles are being opened on the Homepage.

If you create a menu item for your articles/categories as you should (because as you know in Joomla "new page" = "new menu item") the articles from your Homepage will open in a new page.
The modules and the particles just take the URLs that are generated by Joomla.

Once again, it is just a site configuration issue. Remember, in any Joomla website, the most important thing is the Menu. It defines the site structure, it defines the URL structure, you assign modules to menu items, basically in Joomla everything is built around the Menus. It is a menu-centric CMS.

We have a very detailed post in our blog that explains all this in details.
Or you might also want to search on Google for "joomla articles open on homepage" ;)

    Hi Ivo,

I tried to do it with a hidden menu but i didn`t work. I was searching for hours on the internet to find a solution but i can`t. Obviously, i am doing something wrong but i can`t find out what. I did exactly what i read in your blog post but nothing has changed. I just have two questions that they might solve the "mystery".
    1) I already have a Main Menu with Menu Items set as "Gantry 5 -> Custom page". I created a hidden menu as you told me and linked the same categories that i have in the Main Menu. Is that the problem?
    2) Are there any particular settings that i need to check in the Layout manager?

Thank you again for your time!

    Hi Ivo,

Thank you very much for your help! I really appreciate your effort! I watched your video and i am doing exactly what your are showing but still i have the same problem. The URL does not change. Also, when i set a menu item as "Category Blog", is changing the appearance in the page, even the logo (it shows the 365 news logo, although i have placed mine).

Anyway, i will try to find a solution.

    Thanks again! :)

    No problem Ioannis.

I really don't know what's going on on your end, the things I show in the video are all you need.

If you want, send me your site details (URL together with Admin Username and Password) by using the Site Details tab in your next comment and I will have a look.

    Hi Ioannis,

I checked your website and there is definitely something very wrong (and probably corrupted) with it.
I saw that you have Menu Items for your Categories, but when I click on these menu items I see "404 Category not found" instead of the actual articles in this category.

I really don't know what's going on there.
The only thing I can advise you is to perfect a new/clean installation of 365News, make sure that everything works there, and then start customizing it and configuring it to your needs.

I also noticed that you have created quite some Outlines.
Install 365News Quickstart and see how everything is configured there. We are using just one outline.
Also, have a look at the "Gantry 5 Basics" section in the 365News documentation. It explains many things.

    No problem Ioannis.
Yes, starting from scratch (new/clean installation) is the best way to go.
